Sangju City Takes Preemptive Action Amid Shifts in Global Export Environment

Training on Export Quarantine Requirements for Fresh Agricultural Products
Enhancing On-site Response Capabilities of Export Farms

Sangju City in North Gyeongsang Province held the "2026 Training on Export Quarantine Requirements for Fresh Agricultural Products" at the main auditorium of the Sangju Agricultural Technology Center on the 25th. The training was organized by the Gumi Office of the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (Yeongnam Regional Office).

This training was prepared to proactively respond to the rapidly changing international trade environment, including the standardization of quarantine requirements by country and the expansion of non-tariff barriers, and to strengthen the on-site response capabilities of local export farms.

At 11:00 a.m. that day, training was provided to pear export farms on export quarantine requirements for eight countries, including the United States, Taiwan, Canada, and Australia. At 2:00 p.m., training continued for grape export farms on quarantine standards of major export destinations such as Canada, the United States, and New Zealand, as well as important considerations for local customs clearance.

The training went beyond simply explaining the制度 and was structured around key cases that actually occur in the export field, thereby enhancing its effectiveness. The topics covered included: quarantine pest management standards by country, compliance requirements for the Positive List System (PLS) on pesticide residue limits, operational management standards for export production complexes, and analysis of cases that failed quarantine inspections.

Training on export quarantine requirements is a mandatory course that must be completed every year, and farms that do not complete it are restricted from exporting to the relevant countries. Accordingly, Sangju City is actively encouraging participation by export farms and those in charge of export production complexes within its jurisdiction.

In addition, after the completion of the quarantine requirements training, the city plans to further strengthen the safety assurance system for export agricultural products by concurrently conducting "pesticide safety training" in cooperation with the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service.

An official from Sangju City said, "As major importing countries have been continuously tightening their quarantine standards for agri-food products, it is more important than anything else to have accurate information and thorough on-site management," adding, "Through systematic training and administrative support, we will further enhance the export competitiveness of agricultural products from Sangju City."
