President Lee's message on social media
"There is a saying that you should not go against the market, but there is also a saying that you should not go against the government"
"Power has powerful tools such as regulation and taxation"
President Lee Jaemyung again stressed that "whether you maintain multiple homes or own non-residential investment properties, it is your freedom to hold ultra-high-priced homes that cost 300 million won per pyeong, but you will not be able to avoid the risks and responsibilities that come with normalizing what is abnormal."
On the 24th, President Lee shared a related article on X (formerly Twitter) and made these remarks. He went on to say, "There is a saying that you should not go against the market, but there is also a saying that you should not go against the government," adding, "Whether you believe in the normalization of the Republic of Korea or not, and whether you choose to resist or comply, is each person's freedom, but just like with the normalization of the stock market, the resulting gains and losses are also each individual's responsibility."
President Lee said, "Power can turn a normal society into an abnormal one, and it can also turn what is abnormal into what is normal," and added, "The signpost for this is the selfish motives and greed of those in power, and that is why it is easier to achieve normalization if those selfish motives and greed are abandoned."
He also said, "Power has powerful tools for normalization, including regulation, taxation, finance, and supply. The issue lies in the decision and will of those who hold power," adding, "The source of that power is the people. Our people support the normalization of the real estate market, especially the apartment market in the Seoul metropolitan area."
He continued, "Normalizing the real estate market is a difficult task, but it is easier than clearing illegal facilities in valleys or normalizing the stock market," and added, "It is only natural that expectations for the continuation of an abnormal upward trend in housing prices under a government of popular sovereignty should diminish."
