Jung Daeun, a preliminary candidate for Gwangju Buk-gu mayor, held an opening ceremony for her campaign office and began her full-scale election campaign.
On the 22nd, Jung said, "We successfully completed the opening ceremony of the campaign office last weekend and have now entered the full-scale election schedule." The event was attended by political figures including Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung; National Assembly members Jung Junho and Jeon Jinsuk for Buk-gu constituencies A and B; Gwangju City Council members Ahn Pyeonghwan and Cho Seokho; incumbent Buk-gu Council members Gi Daeseo, Kim Geonan, Shin Junghoon, Lee Sukhee, and Han Yangim; and former Buk-gu Council members Go Jeomrye and Yang Okgyun.

Legal figures such as Kim Jeongho, managing attorney of law firm Ewoos, known for the lawsuit over the memoirs of Chun Doo-hwan, as well as former and current local heads of Lawyers for a Democratic Society, Song Changhun and Kim Jeonghee, were also present. Civil society figures including Yoo Bongsik, standing representative of Jinbo Solidarity; Jung Youngil, former head of the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the National Professors’ Union; Park Daesu, former co-representative of the Gwangju-Jeonnam People’s Solidarity Council; and Kim Taejin, head of a youth center, also attended.
Jung’s camp explained that through this opening ceremony, they were able to confirm her political identity and capacity for broader outreach, based on her track record in public interest litigation and her experience as chair of the Gwangju City Council Steering Committee.
At the event, congratulatory speeches were delivered by the “ONE Team-WIN Team,” which included Gwangju City Council prospective candidates Ahn Pyeonghwan, Kim Geonan, and Lee Sukhee, as well as Buk-gu Council prospective candidates Go Jeomrye, Shin Junghoon, and Yang Okgyun. The ONE Team-WIN Team was introduced as a group of figures who have worked together in solidarity, sharing values such as on-site guidance activities at the Mangwoldong Cemetery for National Democratic Martyrs, the inclusion of the May 18 Democratization Movement in the preamble of the Constitution, and administrative integration.
Park Soohyun, chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a video congratulatory message, "I know well the excitement and the sense of responsibility that come with entering politics," adding, "I hope you will walk together with the residents of Buk-gu."
Jung said, "I am grateful for the trust and support of everyone who attended the opening ceremony," and added, "I will lead proactive change in Buk-gu, the representative district of Gwangju Metropolitan City."
Meanwhile, Jung is a lawyer from Lawyers for a Democratic Society who was selected as an outstanding attorney by the Korean Bar Association. She has also served as deputy spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea’s central party and as co-head of the election countermeasures headquarters for Lee Jaemyung in the 21st presidential election.
