Gyeongbuk TP Accelerates Advancement of Gyeongju's e-Mobility Industrial Ecosystem

Signed MOU with Local Specialized High School...Integrated Support for Talent Development and Industrial Transition
1.432 Billion Won in National and Local Funding Over Two Years, Aiming for 6 Billion Won in Sales and 28 New Jobs

Gyeongbuk Technopark (President Ha Inseong, hereafter Gyeongbuk TP) has embarked in earnest on building a sustainable industrial ecosystem and supporting the transition to future vehicles in the Gyeongju region.

Gyeongbuk TP announced on the 20th that, in connection with the “Technology Support Project for Advancing the e-Mobility Parts Industry Ecosystem,” which is part of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ “2026 City/County/District Local Industry Promotion Project,” it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a local specialized high school.

Gyeongju is a core hub where about 43.4% of automobile parts manufacturers in the Gyeongbuk region are concentrated, and its automobile manufacturing location quotient reaches 5.89.

However, due to the recent slowdown in growth of the global electric vehicle market and the region’s internal-combustion-engine-centered industrial structure, rapid and advanced technological transformation has emerged as an urgent task.

This project will designate Gyeongju as the target area and will be carried out for two years from 2026 to 2027, with a total budget of 1.432 billion won (1 billion won in national funding and 432 million won in local funding).

Through the project, Gyeongbuk TP plans to sequentially operate customized technical support programs for companies, including prototype production, product upgrading, testing and certification support, patent and white-space technology discovery, and package support.

Through this, it aims over two years to generate 6 billion won in sales and create approximately 28 new jobs.

This agreement goes beyond a simple corporate support project and has as its core goal the establishment of a settlement-based talent development model linked to Gyeongju’s AI and e-mobility industries.

Gyeongju has experienced a continuous population decline over the past five years, and with a high proportion of elderly residents, responding to the risk of local extinction has emerged as an important policy challenge.

At the same time, the inflow of foreign workers and international students is increasing, raising the need for policies that support the local settlement of skilled technical workers.

Going forward, Gyeongbuk TP plans to promote in parallel, in cooperation with specialized high schools and local industries, the operation of industry-demand-based curricula, expansion of on-site training, development of work-study parallel programs, and the establishment of an industry-academia-research-government cooperation governance system.

Ha Inseong, President of Gyeongbuk TP, said, “The transition to e-mobility is not a choice but a necessity,” adding, “We will foster Gyeongju as the e-mobility industrial hub for the southern Gyeongbuk region by building an integrated industrial ecosystem model that links corporate technology advancement with talent development and settlement support.”
