Gimhae City Offers Up to 100,000 Won in Incentives for Reducing Vehicle Mileage

Implementation of the 2026 Carbon Neutrality Point (Automobile) System

First-come, first-served recruitment of 1,332 non-commercial vehicles starting February 23

Gimhae City in South Gyeongsang Province will implement the "2026 Carbon Neutrality Point (Automobile) System," which provides incentives of up to 100,000 won to citizens who voluntarily reduce their vehicle mileage.

The city announced on February 19 that it is launching this program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fine dust in the transportation sector.

The program targets a total of 1,332 non-commercial passenger cars or vans with up to 12 seats, excluding eco-friendly vehicles such as electric, hydrogen, and hybrid cars.

The first application period runs from February 23 to March 6, 2026, and if the target number of vehicles is not met, a second round of applications will be held from April 6 to April 10, 2026.

Those wishing to participate must sign up as new members on the Carbon Neutrality Point (Automobile) website and apply for the program, or, if they are existing members, apply for re-participation and then, within 2 to 3 days, follow the shortcut URL sent by text message to take and submit photos of their vehicle license plate and dashboard (odometer).

The incentive will be calculated by comparing the "baseline mileage," which is the average daily mileage accumulated after the vehicle was registered, with the "verified mileage," which is the mileage driven up to the end of October 2026 after applying. It will be calculated using whichever is more favorable between the reduction rate and the reduction amount, and will be paid in December 2026 on a differentiated basis, up to a maximum of 100,000 won.

The city explained that last year, 618 out of 1,047 participating vehicles reduced their mileage, achieving a reduction of 217 tons of greenhouse gases, and a total of 44.32 million won in incentives was paid out.

Park Sunguk, Head of Climate Response Division, said, "Reducing vehicle mileage is an everyday carbon-neutral practice that any citizen can put into action," adding, "We hope many citizens will actively participate to reduce greenhouse gases and receive benefits as well."
