Opening Ceremony for the Busanjin-gu Gaegeum-dong Branch at 2:00 p.m. on the 19th
Mayor Park Heongjoon: "Created Jointly by the Public Sector, Businesses, and Citizens"
The seventh branch of the "Our Neighborhood Social Value Management (ESG) Center" is opening in Busanjin-gu.
The Busan Metropolitan City Government (Mayor Park Heongjoon) announced that at 2:00 p.m. on the 19th, it will hold an opening ceremony for the Busanjin-gu branch of the "Our Neighborhood Social Value Management (ESG) Center" in Gaegeum-dong, Busanjin-gu.
Mayor Park Heongjoon, Busanjin-gu District Mayor Kim Youngwook, National Assembly member Lee Heonseung, Busan Metropolitan Council member Bae Youngsook, Jang Inho, Head of the Retail Banking Group at BNK Busan Bank, as well as officials from Lotte Chemical and the Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged are scheduled to attend the event.
This seventh branch was created by upcycling the closed Bohyeon Daycare Center. It is a case of transforming idle urban facilities, which have increased due to the low birth rate and aging society, into hubs for eco-friendly practices.
The center will be operated as a core space for "intergenerational eco-friendly senior jobs." It will run resident-participation programs such as resource-circulation activities for waste plastic, ice packs, banners, and coffee grounds; carbon-neutral practice education; hands-on experiences with shredding plastic and generating electricity using a bicycle generator; and mini hydropower generation experiences. It will also carry out experiential projects such as a free mobile phone charging service using batteries charged by the bicycle generator, and free coffee offerings linked to the Jeonpo-dong cafe street.
In addition, in connection with community-based integrated care projects such as identifying households in crisis and preventing lonely deaths, the center plans to work on spreading ESG awareness and strengthening the social safety net.
In response to the European Union (EU) Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which will be implemented this year, the city plans to expand cooperation with local public corporations and companies such as the Korea Housing Finance Corporation and to increase the number of centers to 16 within this year.
Mayor Park Heongjoon emphasized, "Our Neighborhood ESG Center is a key hub for creating a 15-minute city," adding, "We will continue to expand ESG policies created jointly by the public sector, businesses, and citizens."
