Support to Continue Until August 27
Expectations for Employment Stability and Local Economic Recovery
Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province announced that the designation period for the employment-crisis preemptive response area, which was scheduled to expire on February 27, has been extended by an additional six months.
Under the Framework Act on Employment Policy, the designation period for an employment-crisis preemptive response area can be set within a maximum of 12 months.

The city was first designated on August 28, 2025 and operated as a preemptive response area for six months. With this extension, it will receive support for a total of 12 months, until August 27.
This extension is analyzed as a result of the recognized need for a preemptive response to restore the local economy, at a time when the structural downturn in Yeosu’s petrochemical industry is becoming prolonged and the employment crisis is deepening.
Accordingly, various forms of support, such as employment retention subsidies and the National Tomorrow Learning Card program, can continue, and they are expected to provide practical help to companies and citizens.
Yeosu City has closely examined the local economic situation by analyzing economic indicators and visiting companies, and submitted an opinion letter to the Ministry of Employment and Labor in early February calling for an extension that includes the need for additional support.
The decision on whether to extend the designation period was ultimately made by the Employment Policy Deliberation Committee, based on the submitted opinion letter and in accordance with the Notice on the Standards for Designation of Employment-Crisis Preemptive Response Areas.
An official from the city said, "Taking this extension of the designation period for the employment-crisis preemptive response area as an opportunity, we will work closely with the central government to further accelerate the recovery of the local economy."
