Gimcheon City in North Gyeongsang Province (Mayor Bae Nakho) held Lunar New Year traditional market shopping events at Pyeonghwa Market and Hwanggeum Market to encourage traditional market merchants who are struggling due to rising prices and an economic downturn ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays, and to reinvigorate the local commercial district.

Senior public officials from Gimcheon City Hall took part in the event, using pre-purchased Gimcheon Love Gift Certificates, the local gift certificates, to buy Lunar New Year ritual foods and daily necessities themselves, while spending time communicating with merchants who are suffering from weakened consumer sentiment.

In particular, to revitalize the stagnant alley commercial districts, the city is offering a special 15% discount on Gimcheon Love Gift Certificates, the local currency, throughout February, and Hwanggeum Market is also holding an "Onnuri Gift Certificate Rebate Event" from the 10th to the 14th.

During the event period, consumers who purchase domestic agricultural, livestock, and fishery products can receive Onnuri Gift Certificates worth 10,000 won when they purchase 34,000 won or more, and worth 20,000 won when they purchase 67,000 won or more. This is expected to help ease the financial burden on citizens ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays.

An official from the city said, "We hope you will frugally prepare Lunar New Year ritual foods at traditional markets, where you can find quality products and generous hospitality," adding, "We will continue to promote various policies to stabilize prices and revitalize traditional markets."
