24-Hour Situation Rooms in Operation... Seamless Welfare, Transportation, and Medical Services
Gwangjin District in Seoul (Mayor Kim Kyungho) will implement a seven-day comprehensive plan from February 13 to 19 to ensure residents' safety and minimize inconveniences during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The district will focus on eight key areas: supporting residents to spend a warm Lunar New Year, price stabilization, transportation, snow removal and cold wave response, safety and fire prevention, medical care and public health, cleaning, and establishing public service discipline. Centered on the Integrated Disaster and Safety Situation Room, it will organize task forces for transportation, snow removal, parks, cleaning, and medical care, and maintain an emergency contact system.
In the welfare sector, the district will strengthen welfare checks for seniors living alone and socially isolated households. For seniors receiving customized care services, all beneficiaries will be contacted during the holiday period, and meal support for children at risk of missing meals will continue. The district will also conduct consolation visits to low-income households, facilities for people with disabilities, and single-parent families. For homeless people on the streets, it will deliver "Warmth Sharing Kits" consisting of tteokguk lunch boxes, traditional Korean sweets, and socks, and will organize special patrol teams during the holiday to strengthen protection activities.
To stabilize prices, the district will survey prices of major seasonal goods and inspect compliance with price-tag regulations. The district has issued a total of 10.6 billion won in local gift certificates, including 600 million won in "Gwangjin Ddaenggyeoyo Gift Certificates" and 10 billion won in "Gwangjin Love Gift Certificates."
As part of its transportation measures, the district will increase the number of buses operating from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal and conduct pre-holiday safety inspections of the terminal and major transportation facilities. It will operate a Traffic Situation Room and a Parking Complaints Situation Room, and enforce parking regulations flexibly.
To minimize inconvenience in accessing medical services, the district will operate an Emergency Medical Information Situation Room. Konkuk University Medical Center and Hyemin Hospital will maintain 24-hour emergency medical systems, and 199 hospitals and clinics and 117 pharmacies in the district will be open according to a day-by-day schedule. Information on medical institutions can be found on the Central Emergency Medical Center (E-Gen) website and on the websites of the Gwangjin District Office and the public health center.
In the cleaning sector, the district will conduct pre-holiday large-scale cleanups and intensive waste collection by neighborhood before the holiday, and will operate a Cleaning Situation Room and special mobile teams during the holiday period. Waste disposal will be suspended from February 14 to 16 and will be allowed again from February 17, Lunar New Year's Day.
Mayor Kim Kyungho of Gwangjin District said, "The Lunar New Year holiday is a precious time for families and neighbors to be together, so we will meticulously monitor the situation through the Integrated Situation Room to ensure that residents can enjoy a safe holiday without inconvenience," adding, "We will continue to respond responsibly on the ground throughout the holiday period."
