An Gijeon, Senior Vice Chairman of the Geumsan-gun Council of the National Unification Advisory Council, received a Presidential Citation on the 9th in recognition of his contribution to building a foundation for peaceful unification and spreading security awareness in the local community.
This award is an official recognition of his achievements in establishing institutional and practical foundations for peaceful unification through legislative activities in the local council and cooperation with civil society.
Since 2011, An has served as an advisor to the National Unification Advisory Council, acting as a bridge that gathers voices from the local field and connects them to policy proposals.
In particular, he has focused on turning the discourse on peaceful unification into a part of everyday life by building solidarity with a wide range of civil society actors, including youth groups, professional associations, and veterans' organizations.
Most notably, during his tenure as Chairman of the Geumsan-gun Council in 2020, he sponsored and enacted the "Ordinance on Support for the Geumsan-gun Council of the National Unification Advisory Council," thereby establishing an institutional foundation for the activities of the National Unification Advisory Council.
The ordinance is assessed as having created stable conditions for promoting projects by stipulating support for the operation of the Geumsan-gun Council of the National Unification Advisory Council and clarifying the framework for cooperation.
In addition, while serving as Chairman of the Geumsan-gun Chapter of the Reserve Forces Association, he has conducted annual on-site security education programs for local students and residents, working to enhance understanding of peaceful unification and to strengthen the community's sense of security.
Through these efforts, he has solidified cooperative networks between the local community and professional organizations and has continued practical activities to lay the groundwork for peaceful unification.
In his acceptance remarks, An stated, "Peaceful unification is not a task for a particular institution or individual, but a historic mission for all of us," adding, "When we continue small actions starting in our local communities, peace on the Korean Peninsula can also become a reality."
He went on to emphasize, "I will continue to do my best, through the activities of the National Unification Advisory Council, to build a foundation for peaceful unification together with the residents of the county."
Local figures commented, "Vice Chairman An Gijeon is someone who has connected legislative activities with civil society activities to create a practical foundation for peaceful unification," and congratulated him by saying, "This Presidential Citation is both the fruit of his service to the local community and a source of pride for all residents of Geumsan-gun."
Meanwhile, An, born in 1960 in Jinsan-myeon, Geumsan-gun, has contributed to regional development in various fields by serving as President of the Geumsan-gun Junior Chamber, President of the Ginseng Rotary Club, President of the UNICEF Geumsan-gun Supporters' Association, President of the Geumsan-gun 4H Headquarters, President of the Geumsan-gun Sports for All Association, and Chairman of the Geumsan-gun Council. He is currently leading community service and social cohesion as Director of General Affairs of the Geumsan-gun Ground Golf Association, Chairman of the Geumsan-gun Chapter of the Reserve Forces Association, and Senior Vice Chairman of the Geumsan-gun Council of the National Unification Advisory Council.
