Responding to Rising Demand for Tourism Character Merchandise
Boosting Promotion and Revitalizing Local Tourism
Sancheong-gun in South Gyeongsang Province announced on February 10 that it will begin full-scale operation of the “Sanneomeo Chingudeul” goods shop, featuring the county’s tourism characters, inside Donguibogam Village.
The new goods shop has been set up to respond to rising demand for “Sanneomeo Chingudeul” merchandise and to step up tourism promotion using the characters. It is being operated and promoted by the Sancheong Festival Tourism Foundation.
To mark the opening of the goods shop on January 1, Sancheong-gun held a “Pick Your Favorite Character” event on its tourism Instagram account through February 8, and plans to present mobile vouchers for the Sanneomeo Chingudeul goods shop to 30 winners selected by lottery.
The goods shop offers 54 different products, including plush toys, keyrings, hoodies, ballpoint pens, and calendars. A variety of events utilizing the shop will be rolled out sequentially. The shop is closed regularly every Monday, and during the Lunar New Year holiday it will be closed only on the day itself.
An official from Sancheong-gun said, “Starting with the operation of this goods shop, we will use our tourism characters to continuously develop new content and run events, encouraging participation from visitors and fans who are interested in the characters and enhancing the effectiveness of our tourism promotion.”
Meanwhile, “Sanneomeo Chingudeul” won the Excellence Award at last year’s Korea Local Government & Public Character Festival, and in November took part in the Korea Tourism Souvenir Expo, where it showcased a variety of character goods, steadily raising its external recognition.
