Unveiled at National Disaster Prevention Day Ceremony
Real-Time Response to Fires and Intrusions
To mark National Heritage Disaster Prevention Day on the 10th, an autonomous patrol robot will be deployed at Changdeokgung Palace.
On the 10th, the Cultural Heritage Administration will hold a commemorative ceremony at the National Palace Museum of Korea in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and will present its plan for a pilot operation of an advanced disaster prevention system. At the core of the plan is an autonomous patrol robot named “Sunrabot.” For one month, it will patrol Changdeokgung Palace during late-night hours, tasked with detecting risk factors such as fires and intrusions. This is an attempt to combine cutting-edge technology with round-the-clock safety management, which has been emphasized since the Sungnyemun fire, and it has been introduced using lottery funds.
The Cultural Heritage Administration will also strengthen its on-site response posture in cooperation with local governments. It will conduct joint thawing-season inspections on 40 national heritage sites, including the Seoul City Wall (Hanyangdoseong). It will also carry out practical drills in conjunction with fire stations and police stations, assuming complex disaster scenarios such as fires, storm and flood damage, and earthquakes. An official from the Cultural Heritage Administration said, “We will further advance our preventive systems to safely protect our national heritage.”
Meanwhile, during the ceremony, awards will be presented for a disaster safety contest. In the video category, “An Ordinary Day” by Kim Junyoung will receive the grand prize, and in the poster category, “National Heritage Is Not Your Personal Plaything” by Ahn Daehyun will receive the grand prize. The award-winning works and related records can be viewed in an online exhibition that will run until the end of the year.
