At around 3:31 p.m. on the 9th, a fire broke out on a mountainside in Yongdang-ri, Wondong-myeon, Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do.
After receiving a report that "a fire has broken out in the bamboo grove behind a house," the Gyeongsangnam Fire Headquarters deployed 15 firefighting vehicles and 45 personnel to conduct firefighting operations.
The Korea Forest Service also deployed 20 helicopters, 22 vehicles, and 123 personnel to extinguish the fire, and as of 5:04 p.m., the fire suppression rate had reached 60%.
No casualties have been reported so far, but 122 residents from nearby villages, including 55 from Jungni Village and 67 from Singok Village, were evacuated to a nearby elementary school and other locations.
At the site, a west-southwesterly wind with a speed of 1.2 meters per second is blowing.
Earlier, at around 4:19 p.m. that day, the Yangsan city government issued an evacuation order, saying, "As the forest fire near Yongdang-ri, Wondong-myeon is spreading, residents and hikers in the vicinity must evacuate immediately according to the guidance."
The Central Disaster Response Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service and the Gyeongsangnam-do provincial government urged, "Even a small spark, if neglected, can spread into a large-scale forest fire, so never engage in illegal burning of trash or agricultural by-products, and manage any sources of ignition with extreme care."
