Sharing Warmth for the Third Time Under the Sisterhood Agreement
On February 9, the Climate and Environment Bureau of Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province visited the Jinhae Disabled Welfare Center to inspect the site of the newly opened “Nubija Terminal” and held a donation ceremony to share warmth ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays.
This visit was a follow-up measure to the sisterhood agreement signed last December between the Changwon City Climate and Environment Bureau and the Jinhae Disabled Welfare Center, and was arranged to improve the working environment of the workers at the “Nubija Car Wash,” a welfare job program for persons with disabilities.
As a youth-type welfare job program for persons with disabilities, the Jinhae Disabled Welfare Center has been operating the “Nubija Car Wash” since 2017. Until now, after completing the car wash, workers had to travel a long distance to the previously installed terminal at Jinhae Public Health Center to return or collect the Nubija bicycles, causing inconvenience.
In response, Changwon City installed a new Nubija Terminal in front of the Civil Affairs Building near the workplace, reducing the travel distance by about 400 meters, alleviating the workers’ inconvenience and creating conditions for them to work more safely and conveniently.
In addition, senior officials, including the Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau, donated consolation supplies ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays to convey their warm regards. Going forward, in line with the sisterhood agreement, they plan to continue providing customized environmental education, including “recyclable waste separation” and “carbon neutrality action plans,” not only through volunteer activities during holidays and at year-end, but also for persons with disabilities and their activity assistants.
Lee Yujeong, Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau, said, “I hope that the new Nubija Terminal will provide practical help in ensuring the safety of participants in the disability employment program,” adding, “We will continue to look after underprivileged groups through ongoing exchanges with our sister institution and spare no effort in providing distinctive administrative support unique to the Climate and Environment Bureau, including environmental education.”
