From February 9, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday
"Uridongne Petwitjakso" pet boarding service...support for up to 10 days
Geumcheon-gu in Seoul (Mayor Yoo Seonghun) is operating the "Uridongne Petwitjakso" program, a pet boarding service for socially disadvantaged residents, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The district has introduced this program to support socially disadvantaged residents who face difficulties caring for their companion animals when they must leave home for an extended period during the holidays to visit their hometowns, or due to business trips or hospitalizations.
The service will be available starting on February 9, 2026, and will be provided by designated pet boarding management facilities located in Geumcheon-gu: The Joeun Animal Medical Center in Siheung-dong and Uncle Dog Pet Kindergarten in Gasan-dong.
Eligible users are socially disadvantaged residents such as basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income households, single-parent families, and single-person households who keep dogs or cats and are registered as residents of Geumcheon-gu. The companion animal must be registered under the applicant's name.
Residents who wish to use the service must visit one of the designated pet boarding management facilities in Geumcheon-gu with their companion animal and submit an application along with supporting documents proving eligibility, a copy of their ID, and a copy of the animal registration certificate.
For vulnerable groups, supporting documents include a basic livelihood security recipient certificate, a lower-income household confirmation, or a single-parent family certificate issued within three months from the application date. For single-person households, the required document is a resident registration certificate issued within one month from the application date.
The maximum support period for pet boarding is 10 days, and for single-person households, support is provided for up to 5 days per half-year. However, in unavoidable cases such as long-term hospitalization that are recognized by the district mayor, the period may be extended up to a maximum of 50 days. Within the support period, applications may be split into multiple uses without any limit on the number of times, and any costs incurred for days exceeding the support period must be borne by the user.
Mayor Yoo Seonghun of Geumcheon-gu said, "'Uridongne Petwitjakso' is a program designed to reduce the economic and psychological burden on socially disadvantaged residents and to help them go out with peace of mind," adding, "We will continue to do our best to make Geumcheon a happy district where people and companion animals live together."
