Operating Community Medical Support Task Force... Strengthening Local Care and Expanding Social Participation Opportunities for Seniors
Samyuk Busan Hospital is working to strengthen local care functions by creating hospital-based jobs for senior citizens in cooperation with community organizations.
Samyuk Busan Hospital (Director Lee Muhwa) announced on February 6 that it is promoting a senior employment project for local elderly residents by operating a community medical support task force in partnership with Seo-gu District Office in Busan and Seo-gu Senior Club.
This project was established to expand the social roles of senior citizens in Busan, which has entered a super-aged society, and to support a healthy later life through stable employment.
As a cooperative model in which medical institutions and the local community participate together, it is characterized by utilizing the hospital as an everyday space to simultaneously strengthen seniors' social participation and local care. Based on its expertise and public role as a medical institution, Samyuk Busan Hospital is working to create a working environment and provide on-site support so that senior citizens can work safely and with a sense of purpose.
Under this project, jobs have been designed mainly around roles that make the most of the seniors' wealth of experience and capabilities. Taking into account the characteristics of the medical field, the work has been structured to focus on tasks that place relatively little physical burden and require communication with patients, thereby improving both the seniors' satisfaction and the effectiveness of their roles. As a hospital-based senior employment model operated through linkage between the hospital and the local community, it is also drawing attention as a new case of mutual growth in the region.
Since February this year, 12 local senior citizens have been working in various fields such as hospital facility management support, patient guidance, monitoring, and emotional support. They provide kind guidance and warm responses to patients and caregivers visiting the hospital, contributing to enhancing the stability of hospital operations. Based on the operational outcomes, the hospital plans to gradually expand the number of participants and the scope of activities in the future.
Lee Muhwa, Director of Samyuk Busan Hospital, said, "This project goes beyond simply providing jobs for senior citizens and will serve as an opportunity for the hospital and the local community to grow together," adding, "We will continue to create an environment in which the experience and capabilities of senior citizens are respected, and work with the local community to build a sustainable senior employment model."
