Changpowon Achieves Remarkable Selection for the 2nd Local 100
Year-Round Healing Space with Iris Flowers and Aquatic Plants
Emerging as a Leading Cultural and Tourism Attraction Nationwide
Geochang Changpowon, a leading tourist attraction in Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, has achieved the remarkable feat of being finally selected for the "2nd Local 100 (Top 100 Local Cultural Attractions)" organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The "Local 100" project selects 100 distinctive cultural spaces and contents from among the cultural assets held by regions across the country, in order to showcase the appeal of local cultures to the public. The 2nd Local 100 was chosen through a nationwide online vote and expert evaluation, and Geochang Changpowon received high marks as an ecological cultural park where nature and humans coexist in harmony.
Geochang Changpowon offers rich seasonal attractions centered on iris flowers and a wide variety of aquatic plants, and is loved as a healing walking space that the whole family can enjoy together. Since its opening, it has surpassed a cumulative total of 2 million visitors, consistently receiving a positive response not only from local residents but also from tourists nationwide.
In particular, as a result of faithfully fulfilling its role as a regional cultural hub by creating eco-friendly spaces and hosting local festivals and cultural events, it was designated in 2021 as Gyeongsangnam-do’s first provincial garden.
With its selection for the Local 100, Geochang Changpowon will receive national-level promotional support and benefit from a variety of culture-linked programs. This is expected to further enhance the tourism brand value of Geochang-gun and make a significant contribution to revitalizing the local economy.
Gu Inmo, Mayor of Geochang-gun, said, "As Geochang Changpowon has been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s '2nd Local 100,' we will continue to discover and connect local cultural assets centered on Geochang Changpowon, and we will implement operations and programs in a substantive way so that visitors can enjoy the park safely and comfortably."
Meanwhile, taking this selection as an opportunity, Geochang-gun plans to further strengthen its image as a cultural city where culture and tourism grow together by revitalizing promotions and cultural events linked to the Local 100 and diversifying its tourism content.
