Ready-to-eat meal sales up 16% year-on-year
Expanded lineup including lunchboxes, burgers, and snacks
7-Eleven announced on the 4th that 150,000 units of its two Hudeokjuk Chef collaboration ready-to-eat meals, which went on sale last month, were sold in just two weeks.
Previously, 7-Eleven joined hands with Chef Hudeokjuk, a master of Chinese cuisine with 57 years of experience who also made the top three in a cooking competition program, to fully launch the second phase of this year's star-chef marketing campaign. Thanks to the star-chef effect and the ongoing trend among modern consumers toward simplified meals, the two products launched on January 21, Hudeokjuk Pepper Japchae Triangular Gimbap and Hudeokjuk Chinese Bulgogi Gimbap, achieved strong sales performance within just two weeks.
Sales of ready-to-eat meals for the period from January 21 to February 3 also increased by 16% year-on-year. Hudeokjuk Yuzu Kaoliang Highball, which has been available since January 30, immediately ranked second in the highball category by sales, showing that products related to Chef Hudeokjuk are enjoying strong consumer demand.
In response, 7-Eleven will further strengthen its collaboration with Chef Hudeokjuk starting this month. First, it is launching a new product called Hudeokjuk Jjamppong Stir-fried Pork Chinese Lunchbox, which features a variety of Chinese-style dishes. Customers can enjoy two Chinese dishes at once: stir-fried pork enhanced with a smoky flavor using jjamppong sauce, and Chinese-style stir-fried chicken cooked with a direct-fire scallion-oyster sauce. The overall flavor balance is completed with Kanpung Pork Cutlet, Stir-fried Egg and Chives, and Zha Cai on the side.
Kanpunggi and Yuringi, which are also signature dishes at Chef Hudeokjuk's restaurant Hobin, will be introduced as ready-to-eat foods and snacks. Hudeokjuk Kanpung Chicken Burger, to be launched on the 11th, features a whole-thigh chicken patty with kanpung mayo sauce and smoky-flavored Zha Cai in place of lettuce, offering a Chinese-style burger in Chef Hudeokjuk's signature style. Hudeokjuk Classic Yuringi is served on a bed of six types of vegetables under the Yuringi: frill ice, romaine, chicory, red cabbage, green onion, and carrot, making it easy to enjoy as a light salad.
Hudeokjuk Kanpung Chip Oing, to be launched on the 13th, combines Chef Hudeokjuk's signature Kanpunggi with Oing, a seafood snack that pairs well with Chinese cuisine. It has been developed as an addictive bar snack by adding a sweet and spicy kanpung seasoning to crispy fried Oing chips.
Im Iseon, Food Team Leader at 7-Eleven, said, "As the first lineup of ready-to-eat meals launched with Chef Hudeokjuk received favorable reviews both for taste and buzz, we immediately expanded and introduced additional products," adding, "We will continue to work with chefs who are trailblazers in their respective fields so that we can offer restaurant-quality flavors to many customers at reasonable prices."
