A Korean expatriate living in Canada has won first prize in a local lottery, giving him a prize of about 16 billion won.

According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) on the 3rd (local time), Lee Taeseong, who lives in Edmonton, Alberta, won first prize in "Lotto Max" in October last year and received 15 million Canadian dollars (about 16 billion won).


Lee only found out about his win last month. He said, "I have always dreamed of winning the lottery," adding, "But when I first heard the news that I had won, I couldn't believe it, so I checked it again."


Lee said, "My coworkers have also been buying tickets, dreaming of winning the lottery," and added, "I am very surprised and grateful to have such good fortune."


Lee said he first told his wife and daughter about the win, and that after sharing the joy with his family, he is now making plans for how to use the prize money. He said he plans to pay off his mortgage first and is also considering buying a new vehicle.


He also said, "I have long wanted to travel more and get involved in community and charitable activities," adding, "This win has made it possible to turn those plans into reality."


In addition, he said he has not been able to see his mother, who lives in Korea, for several years and plans to visit her in the near future.
