[Market Focus] PI Advanced Materials Rises on Highlighted Momentum from Robotics and Aerospace Entry

PI Advanced Materials is strong. This is believed to be due to the impact of securities firms' analyses that expect high growth driven by momentum from its entry into the robotics and aerospace businesses.

As of 2:05 p.m. on the 3rd, PI Advanced Materials was trading at 16,650 won, up 4.98% from the previous day.

Choi Seonghwan, analyst at Research Arum, said, "PI Advanced Materials is the world's No. 1 company specializing in the production of polyimide (PI) film," adding, "PI film is a functional material with high heat resistance, high insulation, and high strength, and is used in a variety of industries including flexible printed circuit boards (FPCBs), thermal interface sheets, semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), and aerospace."

Choi projected that Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market, scheduled for this year, will provide a significant growth momentum for the PI market. He analyzed that the company will benefit because the increasing complexity of hinge structures and internal wiring is driving up demand for high-reliability, high-heat-resistance materials.

He also noted that thermal interface sheets (PI Graphite Sheet) using PI film, which have excellent thermal conductivity, have become key heat-dissipation components for smartphones and tablets. Recently, as the performance and integration level of application processors (APs) in mobile devices have improved, the amount of heat generated per device has increased, and accordingly, the importance of heat management has grown.

In particular, he evaluated the advanced industrial PI segment, which covers non-mobile areas such as EVs, energy storage systems (ESS), semiconductors, ultra-high-speed communications, and displays, as a medium- to long-term growth driver.

Choi said, "In the EV and secondary battery sectors, as high-voltage and high-energy-density environments become the norm, the importance of insulation and heat-resistance properties is being emphasized," adding, "EV battery modules and drive motors require stable electrical insulation properties in high-temperature, high-power environments, and PI film is being used as a material that meets these requirements, leading to growing demand."

He went on to say, "With momentum secured for entry into advanced industrial markets such as robotics, aerospace, and AI semiconductors, a revaluation of the company's value is imminent," adding, "In joint drive motors and power control areas, failure to secure electrical insulation and thermal stability can lead directly to malfunctions and safety issues, so the potential application of PI-based materials with high heat resistance and high insulation is drawing attention."
