Mirae Asset Securities surged and hit a new 52-week high during intraday trading following news of a merger between SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, and the artificial intelligence (AI) company xAI.
As of 9:34 a.m. on February 3 at the Korea Exchange, Mirae Asset Securities was trading at 46,600 won, up 6,550 won (16.35%) from the previous day. The stock rose as high as 46,700 won during the session, setting a new 52-week high.
On February 2 (local time), SpaceX announced the acquisition of xAI in a statement from Musk published on the company's website. In the statement, Musk said that the combination of the two companies would "create the most ambitious vertically integrated innovation engine, encompassing not only Earth but also beyond Earth." According to Bloomberg, following the merger, SpaceX is valued at 1 trillion dollars and xAI at 250 billion dollars.
The Mirae Asset Group invested 278 million dollars (400 billion won) in SpaceX between 2022 and 2023. It is known that more than half of the 400 billion won investment came from Mirae Asset Securities.
