Barrier-Free Sharing Path Created in Geonjisan Area,
Connecting Jeonbuk National University Hospital and Deokjin Sports Park
Spanning Approximately 1.4 Kilometers
An open forest trail in Geonjisan, a relaxation space in downtown Jeonju, is now available for all citizens, including those with limited mobility, to use safely and conveniently.
On February 2, Jeonju City announced that the “Barrier-Free Sharing Path Construction Project” in the Geonjisan area has been fully completed.
The Geonjisan barrier-free sharing path spans a total length of approximately 1.4 kilometers, connecting the landscaped area behind Jeonbuk National University Hospital and Deokjin Sports Park. It features an 870-meter decked trail, a 500-meter forest path, as well as amenities such as a foot-washing station and rest areas.
The project was funded with a total of 1.4 billion won, including 800 million won in green lottery funds supported by the Korea Forest Service and the Korea Forest Welfare Institute, and 600 million won from the city budget.
In particular, Jeonbuk National University agreed to allow the use of its land for the benefit of citizens, supporting the project’s goal of providing forest recreation opportunities to people with limited access, especially those with mobility challenges.
Jeonju City applied eco-friendly construction methods to minimize environmental impact and preserve nature, while creating a forest healing environment accessible to everyone. As a result, the city is offering more than just a walking trail-it is providing a forest welfare space for all.
In addition, by connecting the existing decked trails behind Jeonbuk National University Hospital and Deokjin Sports Park, the city has improved the previously disconnected pedestrian environment and greatly enhanced accessibility for all citizens, including those with limited mobility.
With the completion of the barrier-free sharing path, Jeonju City expects that citizens will enjoy everyday leisure along Geonjisan’s gentle slopes and diverse tree species, and benefit from a forest healing space for physical and mental recovery.
Kang Byunggu, Director of the Resource Circulation and Greenery Bureau of Jeonju City, stated, “Geonjisan is a healing space in the heart of the city where people, nature, and urban life coexist. Through the barrier-free sharing path, citizens will be able to enjoy a more organized and high-quality forest recreation and healing experience.”
