Attorney Jeon, a member of the 31st class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, previously served as head of the Special Investigation Division at the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office and the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office, and as head of the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office. Since 2021, he has been working as a criminal law specialist at Bae, Kim & Lee LLC.
Professor Kwon, recommended by the Rebuilding Korea Party, is a former judge who served as an editor and secretary for the Supreme Court’s Labor Law Practice Research Association.
Park Byeongeon, spokesperson for the Rebuilding Korea Party, commented on Kwon’s nomination, saying, "During the Moon Jae-in administration, he was selected as the inaugural chief prosecutor in charge of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, but the appointment was canceled due to opposition from the prosecution. The Rebuilding Korea Party believes that Kwon’s extensive experience, practical expertise, and unwavering drive make him well qualified to investigate the various charges of insurrection and abuse of power by the joint administration of Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Keon-hee, which remain as subjects for future investigation by the third special prosecutor."
President Lee will appoint one of the two candidates recommended by the parties as the special prosecutor within three days.
The second comprehensive special prosecutor is expected to conduct investigations for up to 170 days, with a team of up to 251 members including the special prosecutor. The investigation will cover 17 allegations, including the "Noh Sangwon Notebook," which were not addressed by the previous three special prosecutors (insurrection, Kim Keon-hee, and the death of a Marine).
