Busan City Launches Pilot Operation of 'Busan Safety ON' Website
Urban Flooding, Earthquakes, Nuclear Safety, Subsidence, Landslides, Heatwaves, Shelters
Busan City is launching an integrated website that brings together disaster and safety information in one place.
On February 2, Busan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced that it has opened and begun operating the integrated website 'Busan Safety ON' to comprehensively provide various disaster and safety information closely related to citizens' daily lives.
'Busan Safety ON' is a comprehensive urban safety service that integrates disaster and safety information, which had previously been scattered across multiple departments and agencies, into a single platform. Its key feature is enabling citizens to access the information they need more easily and quickly, and to respond more effectively in disaster situations.
The website consists of six categories: ▲Urban Flooding ▲Earthquake & Seismic Safety ▲Nuclear Safety ▲Subsidence & Landslides ▲Heatwaves & Cold Waves ▲Shelters. It is designed to allow users to view the key information for each category at a glance.
In the Urban Flooding section, information such as river water levels, wind direction and speed, tidal levels, and rainfall data from the Korea Meteorological Administration are linked and provided, allowing users to intuitively check surrounding risk conditions during heavy rainfall. The Earthquake & Seismic Safety section provides earthquake occurrence data, as well as the locations of outdoor evacuation sites and emergency tsunami shelters, to enable prompt evacuation.
In the Nuclear Safety section, real-time environmental radiation status and information on relief facilities for evacuees in the event of a radiation emergency are provided. The Subsidence & Landslides section offers information on landslide-prone areas, current subsidence incidents, and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey data, allowing citizens to identify potential hazards in their vicinity in advance. To prepare for climate-related disasters such as heatwaves and cold waves, the website also includes the locations of cooling and warming shelters and instructions for appropriate actions in various situations.
The Shelters section integrates information on various evacuation and safety facilities, including civil defense shelters, outdoor earthquake evacuation sites, tsunami evacuation locations, cooling and warming shelters, and temporary housing for disaster victims. The website is designed to provide daily safety information during normal times and to serve as a practical guide for evacuation and response in the event of a disaster.
The city plans to conduct a pilot operation until April 30, address any issues identified during this period, and stabilize the system before officially launching the service in May.
Mayor Park Hyungjoon stated, "This website integrates disaster and safety information, which had previously been scattered, with a focus on citizens. We will continue to enhance its content and functions so that citizens can respond quickly in crisis situations and experience safety in their everyday lives."
