Man in His 60s Caught After 17 Vehicle Thefts in Changwon, Stealing 16 Million Won in Valuables

A man in his 60s was apprehended by the police after repeatedly stealing cash from unlocked vehicles.


The Masan Jungbu Police Station in South Gyeongsang Province announced that it had urgently arrested a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, on suspicion of theft.


According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of entering an unlocked vehicle parked on the roadside in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon, at around 7:55 p.m. on January 14, 2026, and stealing 2.3 million won in cash.


Investigations revealed that, between November 11, 2025, and January 16, 2026, he stole valuables worth approximately 16 million won from vehicles in the Changwon area on 17 separate occasions.


Mr. A stated that he committed these crimes to cover his living expenses.


The police received reports from 17 victims, including Mr. B in his 50s, and tracked the suspect's movements. On January 22, 2026, they located Mr. B and made an urgent arrest.


After further investigation, Mr. A was formally detained on January 24, 2026, and referred to the prosecution on January 30, 2026.
