Welfare for All, Rights Enjoyed by Everyone
Haman County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on January 30 that it will allocate a total budget of 18 billion won to the field of welfare for people with disabilities in 2026, aiming to improve their quality of life and expand their participation in society.
As a new initiative for individuals with mobility challenges, the county will launch safety education programs for electric mobility devices. This project is designed to prevent accidents by providing guidance on the proper use and safety rules of electric mobility devices. In 2026, the program will be held twice for approximately 30 participants in the Gaya and Chilwon areas.
To further stabilize the lives of people with severe disabilities, the disability pension has been increased. The basic monthly pension amount has risen by 7,190 won from the previous year to 349,700 won, and with an additional benefit of 90,000 won, recipients can receive up to 439,700 won per month.
The county will also expand job creation programs to support the economic independence of people with disabilities.
Currently, Haman County operates employment programs for people with disabilities at 26 locations, with 92 participants. The county plans to continue expanding job opportunities through partnerships with public institutions and social welfare facilities.
In addition, the county will support daily living and care needs through activity support voucher programs and integrated care services for people with severe developmental disabilities. These efforts aim to reduce the economic and psychological burdens on families with disabled members and to address existing gaps in welfare coverage.
To ensure leisure and mobility rights for families with disabled members, the Disability Life Mobility Support Center will offer free rental of travel vehicles. Vehicles will be available for free for two nights and three days during both the first and second halves of the year, providing new experiences for families who typically have difficulty traveling.
Furthermore, the county will continue to promote abuse prevention education and campaigns to protect the human rights of people with disabilities and improve public awareness. It will also strengthen enforcement of parking regulations in designated spaces for people with disabilities to foster a discrimination-free social environment. Customized support for low-income individuals with disabilities, including medical expenses, assistive devices, and childbirth costs, will also continue.
An official from the Haman County Resident Welfare Division stated, "We will focus on providing practical support to ensure the independence and rights of people with disabilities," adding, "We will continue to strengthen disability welfare policies so that all residents can enjoy a happy life without discrimination."
