Expansion of K2 Tank Exports to Europe... HD Construction Machinery Signs Second Engine Supply Deal with Poland

Second Contract with Hyundai Rotem Following 2022
Gunsan Plant Completion to Meet Increased Demand

On January 28, HD Construction Machinery announced that it has signed a contract with Hyundai Rotem to supply DV27K engines for K2 tanks to be exported to Poland. This is the second supply contract following the one in 2022, with a total of 116 units to be delivered.

The engines supplied under this contract are scheduled to be installed in domestically produced K2 tanks that will be exported to Poland starting in the second half of this year. Some of the engines will be used as spare parts and for transmission testing. Leveraging this contract, HD Construction Machinery plans to expand its supply of tank engines for special-purpose vehicles such as recovery vehicles, obstacle-clearing vehicles, and bridge-laying tanks.

HD Construction Machinery is the only manufacturer that has independently developed and mass-produces engines for the K2 tank, supporting K-defense exports through a stable supply and maintenance system. In addition to Poland, the company is the sole supplier of engines for Turkey’s next-generation Altay tank, and the export of K2 tanks to Peru in South America is also becoming more tangible.

The K2 tank engine delivers a maximum output of 1,500 horsepower, ranking among the highest-performing tank engines currently available. It enables the 56-ton K2 tank to travel at speeds of up to 70 km/h and is designed to operate reliably even in extreme conditions such as strong vibrations, shocks, and both high and low temperatures. Thanks to these capabilities, it is attracting interest from countries considering the adoption of next-generation tanks.

After starting mass production of engines for Turkish tanks last year, HD Construction Machinery has been strengthening its credibility and network in the global defense market by participating in major defense exhibitions such as IDEX, the largest in the Middle East. The company is also seeking additional orders from Eastern European countries pursuing tank modernization plans, including the Peruvian Army.

The company plans to ensure a stable response to mid- to long-term increases in demand through its defense engine production lines at the Incheon plant and the Gunsan plant, which is scheduled for completion this year.

A representative from HD Construction Machinery stated, "It is highly significant for us to contribute to the expansion of K2 tank supplies in Europe," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the defense sector based on the performance and reliability of our independently developed 1,500-horsepower tank engines."
