Blue House: "Will Convey Commitment to Tariff Agreement to U.S., Plan to Respond Calmly"

The Blue House stated on the 27th that regarding the Trump administration's announcement of tariff increases, "Since administrative procedures such as publication in the Federal Register are required for it to take effect, our government will convey its intention to implement the tariff agreement to the United States and respond calmly."


Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the Blue House, delivered the results of the Korea-US trade issue meeting, which was presided over by Policy Chief Kim Yongbeom and National Security Chief Wi Sunglak, through a written briefing that afternoon. The meeting was convened to assess the situation immediately following President Donald Trump's announcement of tariff hikes and to discuss response plans.


From the government, key vice ministers including Yeo Hankoo, Head of Trade Negotiations; Lee Hyungil, First Vice Minister of Economy and Finance; and Kim Jina, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended. From the Blue House, major aides such as Ha Junkyung, Senior Secretary for Economic Growth; Oh Hyunju, Third Deputy Director of National Security; and Ha Jeongwoo, Senior Secretary for AI Future Planning, were present. Kang Hunsik, Chief of Staff, and Kim Jeonggwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, who are currently in Canada as part of the Strategic Economic Cooperation Special Delegation, also participated via phone.


Spokesperson Kang reported that participants reviewed the progress of the "Special Act for Strategic Investment Management between Korea and the United States," which is being promoted as a follow-up measure to the tariff negotiations. Minister Kim plans to visit the United States to discuss related matters with Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick as soon as his schedule in Canada concludes, and Yeo Hankoo, Head of Trade Negotiations, also intends to visit the United States soon to consult with Jamieson Greer, the representative of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
