Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that territorial issues will be discussed at a trilateral meeting between officials from the United States, Russia, and Ukraine, which will be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Zelensky: "Territorial Issues to Be Discussed at Trilateral Meeting with US and Russia"

According to major foreign media outlets on January 23 (local time), President Zelensky stated in a conversation with reporters on social media that day, "I will discuss with the Ukrainian negotiation team what topics will be addressed at the trilateral meeting," adding, "We will discuss territorial issues."

He also explained, "Representatives from the military and intelligence authorities will attend this trilateral meeting," and "After the meeting, the results will be shared with all European allies."

Russia and Ukraine are at odds over the ownership of Donetsk in the eastern region. Russia is demanding that Ukraine relinquish the entire Donetsk region, while Ukraine is insisting on freezing the current front line and establishing a demilitarized zone.

President Zelensky also stated that he is waiting for the United States to specify the date and location for signing the concrete security guarantee agreement that he reached with U.S. President Donald Trump the previous day. He further explained that the agenda for the meeting with President Trump at the Davos Forum the previous day included the establishment of a "free economic zone." Regarding the strategically important Donbas region (comprising Donetsk and Luhansk), the United States has previously proposed designating it as either a free economic zone, which is a type of special administrative region, or as a demilitarized zone.
