The Jeonnam Provincial Election Commission announced on January 23 that it has set and published the spending limits for candidate campaign expenses for the upcoming 9th nationwide local elections, scheduled for June 3.

The campaign spending limits for each election are calculated by applying a limit calculation rate of 8.3%, which reflects the national consumer price index change, to the population and the number of towns, townships, and neighborhoods for each election. After adjusting for increases or decreases, the total increase in allowances for election officials and the total industrial accident insurance premiums are added to determine the final limit.

For the Jeonnam governor and superintendent of education elections, the campaign spending limit is set at 1.508 billion won each. Among basic local government head elections, the Yeosu mayoral race has the highest limit at 220 million won, while the Jindo county governor election has the lowest at 123 million won. The average campaign spending limit for basic local government head elections is analyzed to be 149 million won.

For other elections, the average campaign spending limit for provincial constituency assembly member elections is 52 million won, while for city and county constituency assembly member elections, it is 45 million won. In addition, the limit for proportional representation provincial assembly member elections is 150 million won, and for proportional representation city and county assembly member elections, the average is about 49 million won.

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Provincial Election Commission explained that if constituencies are changed due to the integration of city and provincial administrative districts, the relevant election commission will announce the revised campaign spending limits accordingly.
