Voucher Payments Detected During Non-Attendance of People with Disabilities
Boryeong City Refers Case for Police Investigation
A day activity center for people with disabilities in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, is under police investigation on suspicion of fraudulent use of disability vouchers.
According to a compilation of reports by The Asia Business Daily on January 19, the Boryeong Police Station has booked the local A Day Activity Center for People with Disabilities on charges of violating the Act on the Use and Management of Social Services and Vouchers, and is currently investigating the case.
The center is suspected of receiving payments by processing voucher transactions for day activity services as if they had been provided, even though some people with disabilities did not actually attend the center.
The day activity service for people with disabilities operates by having users attend the center to participate in educational, leisure, and social activity programs, after which the costs are paid using government-supported vouchers.
The Boryeong city government detected repeated irregularities in voucher payments at Center A during an internal inspection of the disability voucher payment system in October last year and referred the case to the police for investigation.
A police official stated, "As the investigation is ongoing, we cannot disclose specific details at this time."
