Overseeing the National Jeonnam Trauma Healing Center Project
On January 19, a dedicated memorial project team was newly established to systematically promote the restoration of honor for the victims and bereaved families of the Yeosu Rebellion in Jeonnam Province.
The memorial project team will be responsible for all memorial and commemorative projects related to the Yeosu Rebellion, and will focus on the pilot project for the National Jeonnam Trauma Healing Center, which has been newly secured as a national project.
The National Jeonnam Trauma Healing Center is a project that supports the healing and daily recovery of victims and bereaved families who suffered psychological and physical harm due to state violence, including the Yeosu Rebellion. This year, Jeonnam Province secured 600 million won in national funding for this new project, and plans to allocate an additional 600 million won from the provincial budget in a supplementary budget. The center will offer healing counseling, psychological education, healing programs such as art, music, horticulture, and travel, as well as physical and Korean traditional medicine treatments and physical rehabilitation programs.
Jeonnam Province plans to use the memorial project team as the core to systematically advance the restoration of honor for the victims and bereaved families of the Yeosu Rebellion. This will include establishing a basic plan for memorial projects for bereaved families, securing national funding, creating a memorial park, establishing a foundation, and constructing the National Trauma Healing Center in a phased manner.
Lee Kilyong, head of the Yeosu Rebellion Support Team in Jeonnam Province, stated, "According to the Yeosu Rebellion Act, the investigation is scheduled to be completed in October this year, and the final investigation report is set to be confirmed in April next year. Therefore, a systematic organization dedicated to memorial projects is necessary. We will do our utmost to ensure the complete truth is revealed and the honor of the victims and bereaved families is restored as soon as possible."
