People Power Party: "Blue House aides are fidgeting, eager to submit their resignations"
Democratic Party: "Policy experience gained at the Blue House to be implemented in local governments"
On January 17, sharp exchanges erupted between the ruling and opposition parties over reports that Woo Sangho, Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs, and several other Blue House aides are expected to resign ahead of the June 3 local elections. The People Power Party criticized the move as an example of irresponsible governance, while the Democratic Party countered that it represents a "virtuous cycle of expertise," transplanting national policy experience to local governments.
Park Sunghoon, Chief Spokesperson for the People Power Party, issued a statement saying, "It is said that Lee Jaemyung's Blue House aides are fidgeting, weighing the timing of when to submit their resignations to run in the June 3 local elections," adding, "With Blue House aides responsible for overseeing state affairs putting their work on the back burner and their minds elsewhere, there is no way for national governance to function properly."
He continued, "While people's livelihoods are collapsing and economic warning signals are sounding, Blue House aides are not even considering countermeasures. Instead, they are preoccupied with planning their exits from the Blue House to prepare for their campaigns. It is outrageous," and urged, "If the Lee Jaemyung administration truly takes responsibility for state affairs, it must first stop turning the Blue House into an election campaign headquarters."
In response, Park Kyungmi, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, emphasized in a written briefing, "It is a natural and desirable trend to transplant the expertise and insight accumulated at the national level into the field of local administration," adding, "When the macro perspective of national governance and the micro sensibility of local administration are combined, policy is completed as action that changes people's lives."
She further stressed, "The spread of national governance experience to local governments is not a 'revolving door,' but a 'virtuous cycle of expertise' that expands the nation's administrative capacity." She continued, "Efforts to implement the policy experience gained at the Blue House in local governments should be encouraged, not met with suspicion or criticism," and called on the People Power Party "to compete honorably with policy alternatives that can truly improve citizens' lives, rather than baseless slander."
According to sources within the ruling party, Woo Sangho, Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs and a four-term lawmaker from Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, is expected to resign soon and begin preparations in earnest to run for governor of Gangwon Province.
