Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it successfully completed the "Community Revitalization Infrastructure Project," a program supported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, as of December 31, 2025. This project invested a total of 1 billion won to improve the living environment tailored to the local conditions of Dongducheon City and to expand the foundation for community activities among residents.
To expand community hubs that support resident activities, the city completed remodeling work on the Saengyeon 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center (2nd floor) and the Gwangam-dong Multipurpose Hall. Before the project, there were complaints about the overall functionality, traffic flow, and user environment of the facilities, and many residents expressed the need to reorganize community spaces to better reflect local demand.
Accordingly, Dongducheon City improved the spaces to enhance convenience and safety for users at both facilities, and to strengthen their role as hubs for resident gatherings, education, and communication. In particular, the second floor of the Gwangam-dong Multipurpose Hall was redesigned to include the "Everyone's Kitchen" function through a change in the project plan, which is expected to contribute to the operation of resident participation programs and the revitalization of community exchange.
In addition, the Urban Regeneration Division of Dongducheon City implemented a resident participation supervision system to enhance the reliability and quality of the construction process. Resident supervisors conducted on-site inspections for each construction phase, checked construction status and safety management, and provided suggestions for improvement. Issues raised were addressed and improved on-site, thereby strengthening the transparency and safety of the project.
Moon Kisik, Head of the Urban Regeneration Division, stated, "This project is significant in that it alleviated daily inconveniences and expanded the foundation for resident activities, based on support from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety," adding, "We will continue to actively reflect residents' opinions and create changes that citizens can truly feel."
