Expectations for Preventing Emergency Room Overcrowding and Filling Gaps in Medical Care
Operating Hours: Weekdays 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., Weekends and Holidays 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Daejeon City has designated eight "Dalbit Children's Hospitals," where children can receive medical care safely during weekday evenings and holidays, even when they are sick outside regular hours.
With this initiative, citizens can now access specialized pediatric medical services more quickly and conveniently near their homes. It is also expected to help prevent overcrowding in emergency rooms and address gaps in medical care.
Dalbit Children's Hospitals are facilities that help distribute patients with minor illnesses away from emergency rooms, allowing for faster and safer treatment. At least one hospital is designated in each district, based on the local pediatric population and medical demand. Hospitals are selected every two years according to criteria such as operating hours, facilities, and staffing requirements.
There are a total of eight Dalbit Children's Hospitals across the districts, maximizing accessibility. They operate from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on weekdays, and from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends and public holidays.
By expanding to five autonomous districts, the city has established a sustainable pediatric care system that guides children with severe conditions to emergency medical institutions and those with minor illnesses to Dalbit Children's Hospitals.
This is expected to reduce the inconvenience and financial burden for families who previously had to use emergency rooms for minor illnesses.
Choi Donggyu, Director of the Sports and Health Bureau of Daejeon City, said, "Our top priority is to create a medical environment where parents raising children can feel safe even at night or on weekends. We will continue to strengthen publicity so that citizens can easily identify Dalbit Children's Hospitals and do our utmost to make Daejeon a better city for raising children."
Meanwhile, information on Dalbit Children's Hospitals in Daejeon, including the nearest hospital and its operating hours, can be checked in real time through the Emergency Medical Information Service, Naver Map app, and the Emergency Medical Portal website.
