Kyowon Group Begins Customer Notification Amid Ransomware Attack and Data Leak Signs

"All Efforts Focused on Determining Whether Customer Information Was Included"

Kyowon Group announced on January 14 that it has initiated proactive notification procedures to alleviate customer concerns after confirming signs of external data leakage following a ransomware attack on January 10.

On January 13, Kyowon Group reported the suspected data breach to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and began sending text messages and notification alerts to customers. The company explained that this is a preemptive measure prioritizing customer protection. Kyowon Group stated that it will share updates on the investigation process and confirmed information with customers in stages, focusing on alleviating anxiety and preventing damage.

Kyowon Group is currently conducting a thorough investigation, in cooperation with relevant authorities and security experts, to determine whether customer information was included in the data leaked externally. If any data breach is confirmed, the company will notify customers accordingly.

The process of restoring the website and online services to normal is also in its final stages. After the internal network was blocked and website access was temporarily suspended on January 10, access has been gradually restored since January 12. Most website functions and major services are now operating normally.

A Kyowon Group representative stated, "Since an initial response is crucial, we are mobilizing all company resources to protect our customers and minimize damage. We will actively cooperate with the authorities' investigation and do our utmost to minimize customer anxiety."
