SK Telink Signs International Call Contracts Without User Consent... Broadcasting, Media, and Communications Commission Launches Fact-Finding Investigation

A fact-finding investigation is underway into SK Telink, a telecommunications service provider, for signing international call contracts without obtaining user consent.

The Broadcasting, Media, and Communications Commission announced on January 14 that it has launched a fact-finding investigation into SK Telink for signing contracts without clearly confirming users’ intentions during the subscription process for certain international call services.

Previously, the commission conducted an inspection in response to complaints that users were subscribed to SK Telink’s international call services, specifically the All Pass and All Together plans, without their explicit consent.

During this process, potential violations of the Telecommunications Business Act were identified, prompting the transition to a fact-finding investigation to determine whether any illegalities occurred.

SK Telink is currently processing contract terminations and full refunds of paid fees for subscribers who have not used the service after signing up for the relevant plans.

A commission official stated, "We will continue to monitor and supervise telecommunications companies to prevent performance-driven business practices that infringe on user rights, and will respond with a zero-tolerance policy if violations are detected."
