Prior to the meeting, the visiting delegation paid a courtesy visit to Sokcho Mayor Lee Byeongseon and engaged in a friendly conversation. During this occasion, the mayors of Sokcho and Aomori exchanged personal letters, reaffirming the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two cities. Both sides reached a consensus on expanding tourism and academic exchanges and shared their commitment to ongoing cooperation and exchange.
The meeting was held in the digital situation room on the second floor of the main building of Sokcho City Hall, presided over by the Deputy Mayor. The session began with introductions, followed by welcoming remarks from the Deputy Mayor and the Director of the Field Tourism Center at Aomori University (who is also a professor at the School of Business Administration at Aomori University). This was followed by the screening of Sokcho City's promotional video "Sokcho Four Seasons," presentations on Sokcho City's tourism policies, an introduction to Aomori City's tourism policies, and a Q&A session. The Director of the Economic and Tourism Bureau, the Head of the Tourism Division, and team leaders from the Tourism Division also attended, responding to questions and sharing examples of tourism policies from both cities.
In particular, the discussion focused on reviewing Sokcho City's tourism policies, which link marine, mountain, and urban tourism resources, alongside the tourism policy initiatives currently being pursued by Aomori City, in order to assess the potential for mutual cooperation.
Sokcho City plans to use this visit as an opportunity to expand its international tourism cooperation model by connecting university, youth, and academic exchanges, and to continuously strengthen its competitiveness as a global tourism city by revitalizing tourism exchanges in Northeast Asia, including with Japan.
Mayor Lee Byeongseon of Sokcho City stated, "I hope this meeting will serve as a new starting point for the exchange of tourism policies between Sokcho City and Aomori City, Japan," adding, "Through ongoing exchanges between the two cities, we will continue to build a mutually beneficial cooperative relationship and open a new future for tourism together."
