Kicking Off 2026 with the Byeongo Opening Ceremony
Declaration of Citizen-Centered Legislative Operations
The Mungyeong City Council has officially launched its legislative activities for the new year of 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse (Byeongo).
On January 2 at 11 a.m., the Mungyeong City Council held its 2026 opening ceremony in the main assembly hall, with all council members and staff in attendance. During this event, they shared the direction and resolutions for legislative operations in the new year. More than a simple annual event, the ceremony served as an opportunity to reaffirm the council's commitment to citizen-centered legislative activities.
In his New Year's address, Chairman Lee Jeonggeol emphasized, "Every standard for our legislative decisions must be the lives of our citizens," and added, "In the new year of Byeongo, we will continue to drive changes that citizens can truly feel through responsible oversight and by presenting alternatives."
He further stated, "The council will play a central role in realizing a happy and livable Mungyeong."
The Mungyeong City Council will officially commence its legislative work for 2026 with the 290th temporary session scheduled for February. During this session, the council will receive reports on key work plans from each department of the executive branch and thoroughly review the direction of major policies and projects. Through this process, the council aims to meticulously ensure that budgets and policies are properly implemented in the field.
This year as well, the Mungyeong City Council plans to focus its efforts on strengthening public trust and supporting the region’s sustainable development through field-oriented legislative activities and reasonable policy alternatives. With the opening ceremony marking the start of the new year, the council's legislative agenda is expected to become even more deeply embedded in the daily lives of citizens.
