[New Year’s Address] Hwaseong Mayor Myunggeun Jeong: "Leaping Toward a New Hwaseong Like the ‘Jeongchuljiil’"

Myunggeun Jeong, Mayor of Hwaseong, stated in his New Year’s address, “Hwaseong stands at the threshold of a major transformation with the official launch of the four-district administrative system,” adding, “Just as the sun rises at the right moment-Jeongchuljiil-I will lead Hwaseong to leap forward toward a new future.”

Mayor Jeong emphasized, “Hwaseong is a microcosm of Korea, constantly facing difficult challenges and always moving forward toward the ‘next Hwaseong.’ We will not settle for the innovations we have already achieved, but instead, together with our citizens, we will create a new history unique to Hwaseong.”

He presented a vision that the transition to the four-district administrative system, set to launch in February next year, will enable the city to address issues more quickly and closely in residents’ daily lives. He pledged to respond more precisely to everyday needs through on-site, citizen-centered administration.

He stated, “Hwaseong will become a key hub for national strategic industries where AI, mobility, renewable energy, and future agriculture converge.” He continued, “We will lay the groundwork for promising ventures and startups to grow into unicorns, establishing Hwaseong as Korea’s leading K-AI city, on par with Silicon Valley in the United States and Shenzhen in China.”

Mayor Jeong also pledged to actively pursue initiatives such as ▲ digital and data transformation for local businesses ▲ operation of AI innovation schools ▲ job creation through investment attraction ▲ expanding the issuance of local currency to the 1 trillion won range ▲ infrastructure expansion through railway construction projects such as the Dongtan-Indeogwon Line.

He expressed his commitment to strengthening welfare policies, saying, “We will meticulously address the fundamentals of life, including basic income, housing, care, education, and transportation, and ensure integrated care throughout the entire lifespan, from children to seniors and people with disabilities.”

Mayor Jeong stated, “To make the pride of our 1.06 million citizens even more special, I will prepare for Hwaseong’s future by staying one step ahead of citizens’ expectations.”
