Statement Released After Allegations Emerged
Trot singer Sookhaeng, who has been facing allegations of an extramarital affair, announced her decision to step down from the program she was currently appearing on.
On December 30, Sookhaeng stated on her Instagram, "I sincerely apologize for causing concern due to my recent personal matters," and added, "I will withdraw from the program I am currently participating in to prevent any further harm."
She continued, "I would like to once again deeply apologize to my fellow contestants and the production staff, who have been doing their best in the competition, for causing trouble with this incident. I will thoroughly reflect on my actions and strive to become a more responsible person."
However, she also said, "All facts will be clarified through legal procedures in due course," and added, "The indiscriminate spread of unverified information can cause irreparable harm to me, my family, and the program I participated in. I respectfully ask that excessive and unnecessary reporting be refrained from."
The previous day, a housewife in her 40s, referred to as Ms. A, claimed on JTBC's 'Case Chief' that her husband had an inappropriate relationship with a famous trot singer, referred to as Ms. B. The informant stated that her husband and Ms. B had been living together, and that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured them hugging and kissing. She revealed that she had filed a lawsuit for adultery.
Afterward, online speculation arose that, based on the clothing seen in elevator footage of the man and Ms. B, Ms. B might be Sookhaeng. As a result, there were growing calls for Sookhaeng to provide an explanation.
Sookhaeng became known to the public after placing in the top 10 on TV Chosun's 'Miss Trot' in 2019. She had been appearing on MBN's 'The King of Active Singers 3.'
