Gimhae City in Gyeongnam Province will significantly strengthen its crackdown on illegal burning activities starting next year.
Until now, the city has been monitoring illegal burning within forests or within 100 meters of forests in accordance with the Forest Protection Act. However, on December 26, the city announced that beginning in 2026, it will also enforce the Waste Management Act, cracking down on illegal burning at unregistered facilities as well.

Starting in January next year, separate fines will be imposed for violations of the Forest Protection Act and the Waste Management Act.
Through these measures, the city aims to enhance the effectiveness of its crackdown on burning activities such as trash incineration and to eliminate the risk of forest fires caused by burning at its root.
An official from the city's Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters stated, "We have established a close cooperation system with related departments such as the Forest Division and the Resource Circulation Division to ensure that not a single forest fire caused by burning occurs." The official also urged, "We hope citizens will actively participate in eradicating illegal burning and join us in making Gimhae a city free of forest fires."
