Up to Three Wheelchair Users Can Ride Simultaneously
Full-Scale Operation Begins in January 2026
Gangneung City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Kim Hongkyu) will introduce a multi-passenger special transportation system for the first time among cities and counties in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province to guarantee mobility rights and promote greater social participation for transportation-vulnerable individuals. Currently, special transportation services operate on an individual mobility support basis. To meet the demand for group travel, the city has newly introduced one multi-passenger special transportation vehicle (Solati) that can accommodate three wheelchair users at the same time.
The multi-passenger special transportation system can be used when two or more registered wheelchair users with the same departure and destination request service. It will operate only within Gangneung City from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Reservations can be made by calling the Gangneung City Transportation Support Center for the Mobility-Impaired from seven days prior to the desired date of use, on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Mayor Kim Hongkyu of Gangneung City stated, "The launch of this multi-passenger special transportation system is the first leading case within Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, marking a new step forward in guaranteeing mobility rights and expanding social participation for transportation-vulnerable individuals. We will continue to do our utmost to create a transportation environment where all citizens can travel safely and conveniently without discrimination."
