National Credit Union Federation of Korea Holds Discussion on Saemaul Geumgo Development Plan

The National Credit Union Federation of Korea held the "Discussion on the Development Plan for Saemaul Geumgo" on the 19th at Seminar Room 2 of the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul, together with members of the National Assembly and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The event focused on exploring financial normalization and development strategies for Saemaul Geumgo.


The discussion was attended by Park Junghyun, Member of the Democratic Party, Kim Minjae, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Kim In, Chairman of the National Credit Union Federation of Korea, and more than 80 other stakeholders.


Prior to the discussion, Kim Kitae, Chairman of the Korea Institute for Cooperative Studies and a member of the Saemaul Geumgo Vision 2030 Committee, gave a presentation on the "Vision 2030" implementation strategy. Chairman Kim proposed 37 detailed action plans across three key areas-strengthening soundness, restoring community spirit, and addressing regional issues and balanced development-to help Saemaul Geumgo emerge as a new hope for the local economy.

During the subsequent discussion, various experts deliberated on restoring the identity of Saemaul Geumgo and strategies for its future development. The session was moderated by Kim Jonggeol, Professor at Hanyang University Graduate School of International Studies and Chair of the Saemaul Geumgo Vision 2030 Committee. Panelists included Cho Hyekyung, Director of the Financial Economics Research Institute; Kim Daeyoung, Director of the Regional Financial Support Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; Kim Jinyoung, Senior Policy Advisor of the Democratic Party Policy Committee; Moon Jinsu, Director of the Social Finance Research Institute; and Yang Sehun, Director of the GFI Future Policy Research Center.


At the discussion, the panelists presented various measures for restoring the identity of Saemaul Geumgo, achieving financial normalization, and ensuring its sustainability. They also discussed the feasibility and effectiveness of the Vision 2030 implementation plan.


A representative from the National Credit Union Federation of Korea stated, "This discussion will serve as a foundation for further development of Saemaul Geumgo by improving its supervisory system and institutional framework, as well as strengthening financial consumer protection. We hope that this event will help Saemaul Geumgo solidify its foundation and provide an opportunity for even greater growth."
