The Gochang Cultural City Center has published an interview collection titled The Days Lived Are All Songs, documenting the lives of local elders.
According to the center on December 23, this interview collection is the result of the "Gochang Elders’ Life Record Project," which was launched to share the value of intergenerational empathy. The book features the life stories of 12 elders aged 85 and older from the region, preserving their personal memories as valuable records of the community and local history.
The interviews were conducted in the elders’ living spaces and recorded in an oral style that captures their speech and emotions, vividly conveying their life experiences. The stories cover topics such as daily life and labor, family and community, war, and poverty.
Chief Archivist Jung Myunghye stated, "The lives of the elders are the very history of Gochang," adding, "I hope this record will serve as a catalyst for questions and reflection for the next generation."
Director Lee Moonsik commented, "This interview collection is a meaningful achievement that documents the lives of elderly residents," and expressed hope that it will serve as a bridge for empathy across generations.
Meanwhile, the Gochang Cultural City Center will hold a publication celebration at 1 p.m. on December 29 in the exhibition hall of the Gochang Culture Center, with participating elders, their families, and local residents expected to attend.
