There have been a series of injuries at ski resorts in the Gangwon region.
According to fire authorities on December 21, at around 9:59 p.m. the previous day, a 22-year-old identified as A fell while skiing at a ski resort in Gohan-eup, Jeongseon County, and was transported to the hospital with a leg injury.
Earlier, at around 12:26 p.m. on December 19, a 21-year-old identified as B fell backward while snowboarding at a ski resort in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang County, and reported symptoms such as memory loss and dizziness.
It is important to note that recklessly speeding down the slope without maintaining a safe distance can result in injuring others, which may lead to criminal charges.
In fact, in 2019, at a ski resort in Pyeongchang, a snowboarder descending straight downhill in a "one foot" state, with only one foot fixed to the board, collided with a guest ahead, causing injuries that required six weeks of treatment. The snowboarder was fined 2.5 million won for the crime of negligent bodily injury.
Ski resorts throughout the Gangwon region have continued to attract visitors seeking the thrill of winter sports. As of 2 p.m. on December 21, 5,057 people visited Phoenix Pyeongchang and 4,912 people visited High1 in Jeongseon, enjoying the silver slopes.
Fire authorities stated that in order to prevent winter leisure sports accidents, it is essential to warm up thoroughly to loosen joints and muscles and to always wear protective gear such as helmets.
They also advised that choosing a slope suitable for one's skill level and taking sufficient breaks while enjoying sports is recommended.
