Acting Police Chief to Restrict Hate Rally March Routes... Investigations for Violations

During a meeting with reporters at the National Police Agency on this day, Acting Commissioner Yoo addressed concerns that restricting march routes could infringe on constitutional freedom of expression, stating, "We will partially restrict march routes in response to hate speech and conflicts involving tourists and merchants, and will take all actions permitted under current law."

He further stated, "Marching in areas prohibited by the police constitutes a violation of the Assembly and Demonstration Act. We will hold violators accountable through post-event investigations."

He also noted, "Since the current administration took office, the number of rallies and demonstrations has been on a downward trend. Taking this into account, we plan to reduce the number of security police officers by about 1,000 and operate in a way that strengthens public safety services."
