The Deaflympics is an international sporting event for athletes with hearing impairments, holding the same status as the Olympics, and is a global stage where only the world's top athletes compete. By winning the gold medal in the +80kg category at this year's Tokyo Deaflympics, Lee Hakseong set an unprecedented record in Deaflympics Taekwondo history by becoming the first athlete in the world to win four consecutive gold medals.

Lee Hakseong is the only athlete who has maintained his position at the top for 12 years, securing gold medals at four consecutive Deaflympics: Sofia 2013, Samsun 2017, Caxias do Sul 2022, and Tokyo 2025.

Achieving this feat amid generational changes and fierce international competition once again proves Lee Hakseong's unrivaled dominance on the global stage.

Since joining the Gimpo City Hall Taekwondo Team in 2017, Lee Hakseong has played a leading role as one of Korea's top athletes, raising the profile of both South Korea and Gimpo City Hall at every international competition. His presence is not only a personal honor but also a symbol of the competitiveness of Korean para-Taekwondo and the prestige of Gimpo City's sports community.

Mayor Kim Byungsoo stated, "Lee Hakseong's 12-year reign at the top of the world is the result of relentless effort and self-discipline," adding, "As a representative athlete of Gimpo City, I look forward to seeing him continue to perform on the world’s biggest stages."

Gimpo City plans to continue providing support so that outstanding athletes can showcase their skills on the international stage.
