Pre-Order Period Extended, Starts 13 Days Earlier
82% of Key Fruit Gift Sets Have Prices Frozen or Reduced
Homeplus announced on the 15th that it will be holding a pre-order event for Lunar New Year gift sets for 51 days, from December 18 to February 6 of next year.
This year’s pre-order period has been moved up by 13 days compared to last year, taking into account that many customers prepare their Lunar New Year gifts in advance. Pre-orders account for more than two-thirds of total Lunar New Year gift set sales.
During the pre-order period, customers can receive up to a 50% discount when paying with participating event cards. In addition, there will be instant discounts or gift certificates of up to 7.5 million won. Customers who purchase more than 50,000 won with an event card will receive interest-free installment benefits depending on the card company, and those who spend more than 30,000 won will receive free shipping.

This year, due to prolonged high inflation, Homeplus has increased the proportion of gift sets priced at 50,000 won or less to 78% of all items. Among new products, 83% are also priced at 50,000 won or less. Representative items include the “Premium Apple Set from Famous Regions” (49,900 won), “Selected Pear Set” (49,900 won), “Premium Nonghyup Sangju Dried Persimmon 30-piece Set” (39,900 won), and “Seasoned Korean Pork Ribs Set” (59,990 won).
For fruit gift sets, which are among the most popular choices for customers, prices have been frozen or lowered for more than 82% of the products. Notably, the “GAP Apple Set,” which boasts high annual sales, is being offered at a price 5,000 won lower than last year.
Efforts have also been made to lower prices through the “Origin Switch” strategy. The popular “Mujinjang Apple and Pear Set,” which ranked high in sales for mixed fruit gift sets last Lunar New Year, has switched its pear sourcing from Anseong to Naju, reducing the price by 10,000 won. Naju is a well-known region with the largest distribution volume of pears in Korea, maintaining relatively reasonable market prices.
For livestock gift sets, such as the “Nonghyup Safe Korean Beef 1+ Grade Sirloin Chilled Set” and the “Nonghyup Safe Korean Beef 1st Grade Meat Chilled Set,” prices have been either frozen or reduced across 10 different sets. For miscellaneous gift sets, which saw a 15% year-on-year sales increase last year due to their affordable prices, Homeplus has decided to freeze prices for 100% of the items.
Pre-orders for Lunar New Year gift sets can be made by calling the Homeplus customer center, visiting a store, or through the Homeplus online app. For online purchases of 100,000 won or more, a 10% coupon discount is available, and additional overlapping coupon discounts are offered based on the purchase amount when paying with an event card.
Kim Sangjin, Head of Trade Marketing at Homeplus, stated, “Although Lunar New Year is a holiday that marks a fresh start to the year, many people are concerned about the high prices when purchasing gifts. We have expanded our selection of cost-effective gift sets to provide more affordable and diverse options,” adding, “Although it is a challenging time for everyone, including Homeplus, which is currently undergoing corporate rehabilitation procedures, we will continue to strive to provide practical support to customers as they prepare for the holiday, hoping for a better year ahead.”
