On December 14, President Lee Jaemyung marked the Democratic Party's 'Members' Day,' stating, "The Democratic Party's 70-year journey is a glorious history of safeguarding democracy and creating a better life for the people."
Introducing himself as "a 20-year party member and President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jaemyung," President Lee delivered these remarks in a congratulatory address at the '70th Anniversary of the Democratic Party Founding and Members' Day' event held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul, that afternoon. The address was read on his behalf by Kang Hoonshik, Chief Presidential Secretary.
President Lee said, "Exactly one year ago today, the National Assembly, following the will of the people, impeached Yoon Sukyeol. We proved with our whole being the truth that no power can overcome the people." He continued, "I love all of you who endured the biting cold, dispelled the darkness, and restored the light."
He added, "The greater and more significant a task is, the less it can be accomplished alone. Changing the world is not about one person taking a hundred steps, but a hundred people taking one step together. As you have always done, I ask our fellow party members to take the lead. Let us become an even stronger 'one team' and complete the revolution of light."
President Lee went on to say, "The unwavering action, judgment, and steadfast sense of responsibility of our party members have been the greatest driving force in upholding the sovereignty of the people and the constitutional order of democracy in this country. I will never forget that earnest and solemn mandate, not even for a moment," pledging, "As a faithful servant of the 52 million sovereign citizens, I will boldly advance toward a nation where the people are the true owners."
Before reading President Lee's congratulatory address, Chief Secretary Kang conveyed, "The President very much wanted to attend and see all of you in person."
